On November 22nd and 23rd of 2016 there is a viral gif or animated photo of Los Angeles rush hour traffic being shared around the Internet. It started on Reddit and has surfaced on Facebook and many other social media websites. We have already received a number of contacts asking if this is really what traffic looks like in Los Angeles during rush hour. The answer is yes. Remember that with daylight savings time the traffic looks much worse because of all the lights. It gets dark around 5:15 now so everyone is driving home from work at night.
This is the 405 Freeway, south of Westwood and UCLA. At the very top, left side of the freeway is the Getty Center with Westwood/UCLA also being at the top. The Mormon Temple is on the right-hand side (the building that’s lit).
Many may wonder why there are so many car and truck accidents in Los Angeles. This video should explain it in three seconds. With millions of drivers on the roads, interstates and highways every single day, the potential for accidents and crashes is much higher than a city in which there are other forms of transportation.
Over the next 24 hours the traffic in Los Angeles is sure to get worse as the day before Thanksgiving is often considered the busiest travel day of the year. While some people will get out of work by lunch, it will still be the case that millions will be driving to the airport or out of town to eat Thanksgiving dinner with family members in other parts of Los Angeles or California.
Have you had to sit in Los Angeles traffic? Is this the worst you have seen? How long does it take you to get from home to work?
